# Armoured cable supply run

> 5.0 Star from 46 reviews · Covering Banstead, Sutton and Wallington · Trading since 2012 · Call 07460 070551 · Steel wire armoured cable runs by TMB…

TMB Electrics runs steel wire armoured cable to take a protected electrical supply from the property to a garage, outbuilding, garden or commercial premises. The cable is laid, terminated and tested so the new circuit can be used safely.

## Armoured cable supply run prices

An armoured cable supply run starts from £250 a day. That day is the labour to lay, terminate and test the steel wire armoured cable.
- Armoured cable supply run (per day): from £250
- Cable length, burial depth and the number of joints decide whether the job runs into a second day.
- The written quote sets the cable size, glands and any extra materials before work starts.
- A new consumer unit, outbuilding fittings or garden lighting is quoted as its own service.

## When do you need an armoured cable run

A building, garden or piece of equipment that sits away from the house needs a protected cable before it can take a safe electrical supply.
- **Garage or workshop with no power:** A garage still on an extension lead, or with no supply at all, needs a buried armoured cable of its own.
- **Garden room or summerhouse:** A garden room used as an office or guest space needs a proper circuit, not a trailing flex through a window.
- **Supply between two buildings:** A shed, store or second building on the same plot needs a protected run from the main board to its own isolator.
- **Outdoor power for lighting or equipment:** Garden lighting, a pond pump or a gate motor needs an armoured feed where the cable leaves the house.

## What is covered

The day's work is the cable run itself, from the board or isolator to the far end, then tested and written up.

### Included
- Planning the cable path from the consumer unit or isolator to the far end
- Laying of steel wire armoured (SWA) cable, buried or clipped as the quote sets out
- Glands and terminations at both ends
- Continuity and insulation resistance tests on the new run
- A minor works certificate or installation certificate for the circuit

### Not included
- Sockets, lights, an EV charger or other fittings at the far end
- A consumer unit replacement when the existing board cannot take the new circuit
- Garden lighting as a finished installation, which is quoted on its own

## What happens on the day

The power is isolated at the board, the armoured cable is laid and terminated, then the circuit is tested and certified before it is switched on.
1. **Arrival and isolation:** The existing board is checked, the destination is confirmed, and the circuit that will feed the new run is isolated.
2. **Laying and terminating the cable:** Steel wire armoured cable is pulled, buried or clipped, then fitted with glands and terminated at both ends.
3. **Testing and the certificate:** The run is tested for continuity and insulation resistance, then a minor works or installation certificate is left with you.

## What you get after an armoured cable run

You are left with a protected supply at the far end, a circuit you can switch off on its own, and the certificate for the work.
- **Power at the far end:** The garage, outbuilding or outdoor point has a terminated, tested feed ready for the fittings that go on it.
- **A circuit you can isolate:** The new run is added at the consumer unit or isolator so it can be switched off without killing the rest of the property.
- **The certificate in your hand:** You keep the minor works or installation certificate that records the tests on the new cable.

## Armoured cable supply run questions

An armoured cable run with TMB Electrics starts from £250 a day and is the protected way to take power away from the house.

### How much does an armoured cable run cost?

An armoured cable supply run with TMB Electrics starts from £250 a day. Length, ground and the number of joints decide how many days the job takes. The written quote sets the cable size and the number of days before work starts.

### What is steel wire armoured cable?

Steel wire armoured cable, often called SWA, is a power cable with a layer of steel wires around the conductors. That armour lets it be buried or clipped outdoors without a separate conduit. TMB Electrics uses it for supplies that leave the building.

### Is the cable buried or run along a wall?

The cable is buried where it crosses a garden or drive, and clipped where it can run along a wall or fence. The written quote states which method applies on your property. Either way the armour is the mechanical protection.

### Does a new outdoor circuit need Building Control?

A new circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable work under Part P. TMB Electrics is Part P certified for that notification. The quote states whether the run is a new circuit or an addition on an existing one.

### Can one cable feed the garage and the garden?

One armoured run can supply a sub-board in the garage, and that board can then feed lighting or sockets inside. Separate garden lighting is a different service if it needs its own feed. TMB Electrics prices each run on its own day rate.
