# Electric shower installation and replacement — TMB Electrics

> See the current electric shower installation price and request a replacement or new installation quote, with the circuit, cable and RCD suitability checked.

Install or replace an electric shower after checking that the shower rating, electrical supply, cable, circuit protection, water connection and planned position are suitable.

## Electric shower installation price

The current published price appears below. The final quote confirms the shower, existing supply and any cable, circuit or plumbing work needed.
- Electric shower installation: £220
- The shower unit is only supplied when the confirmed quote says it is included.
- A new circuit, cable route, consumer-unit work, plumbing alterations and making good are separate unless agreed.

## Match the shower to the property

Electric showers combine water with a high electrical load. The unit and the installation need to be checked together before work starts.
- **Replacing an existing shower:** A new unit is not automatically a like-for-like electrical match. Its power rating must suit the existing cable, protective device and supply.
- **Installing a shower for the first time:** A new electric shower normally needs its own suitable circuit, RCD protection, cable route and water connection planned before fitting.
- **Confirming the complete scope:** Access, wall condition, pipe position, isolation and any electrical or plumbing upgrades should be agreed in the quote.

## What the installation covers

The quote records the agreed shower and whether the existing electrical and water arrangements can be used safely.

### Included when agreed
- Review of the shower model, power rating and manufacturer's instructions
- Checks of the supply, cable, circuit protection, RCD, isolation and earthing
- Removal of the existing shower where it is part of the quote
- Mounting and electrical connection of the agreed shower
- Electrical testing and commissioning
- The relevant electrical certificate and notification where applicable

### Not included automatically
- Supplying the shower unit unless the quote includes it
- A new circuit, cable route or consumer-unit upgrade
- Plumbing alterations, water-pressure work or leak repairs
- Tiling, plastering, decoration or other making good
- Repairs to unrelated electrical faults

## How the installation works

Checking the existing setup before fitting helps avoid a shower that is unsuitable for the circuit or water supply.
1. **Share the shower details:** Send the make, model and power rating, plus photos of the existing unit, consumer unit, isolator, cable route and water connection where possible.
2. **Confirm the supply and scope:** The electrician checks the circuit and protection, confirms what can be reused and explains any electrical or plumbing work needed first.
3. **Fit, test and hand over:** The agreed shower is mounted and connected, then the electrical safety controls and operation are tested before handover.

## What you receive

The handover confirms what was installed, how it was tested and whether any further work remains.
- **Installed shower:** The agreed unit is fitted in the confirmed position and connected to the suitable electrical and water supplies.
- **Tested electrical work:** The circuit, protective devices and completed connection are tested before the shower is put into use.
- **Relevant documents:** You receive the electrical certificate and Building Regulations record required for the work, where applicable.
- **Clear next steps:** Any unsuitable existing cable, circuit, water supply or surrounding work is explained and quoted before further work goes ahead.

## Electric shower questions

What to check before arranging installation or replacement.

### Can any electric shower replace my old one?

No. The new shower's power rating, water connection and fixing position must be compatible with the existing cable, circuit protection, supply and pipework.

### Can I choose a more powerful shower?

Only if the electrical supply, cable and protective device are suitable for the higher rating. The electrician must check these before the unit is fitted.

### How much does electric shower installation cost?

The current installation price appears above. The final quote depends on whether this is a compatible replacement or needs a new circuit, plumbing changes or other work. The shower unit is included only when the quote says so.

### Will I need a new circuit?

A first-time installation normally needs a suitable dedicated circuit. A replacement may use the existing circuit only when its cable, protection and condition suit the new shower.

### Do I need a plumber or electrician to install an electric shower?

A competent electrician should handle the shower's electrical circuit, connection and testing. Separate plumbing work may also be needed if the water connection or pipework has to change.

### Can I install an electric shower myself?

Because an electric shower combines a high electrical load with a bathroom location, use a competent electrician to design, connect and test the electrical work. A new circuit or some work near a bath or shower may also need Building Regulations notification or approval.

### Does electric shower work need Building Regulations approval?

It depends on the scope. A new circuit and some electrical work in a bathroom may need notification. The electrician should confirm the certification and notification route before work starts.

### What certificate will I receive?

The required document depends on the work completed. This may be an Electrical Installation Certificate or Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, plus a Building Regulations compliance record where applicable.
