What happens on the day
Merland Rise and Preston Lane get one extra outlet or a new switch plate, and it stays on the circuit already feeding the room. That circuit is switched off at the consumer unit before any joint is made. The new point is fitted and the circuit that feeds it is tested. A minor works form is completed when the change needs one. If the circuit cannot feed the point, a new run is quoted instead.
- One point at Merland RiseMerland Rise and Preston Lane get one extra outlet, or a replacement switch plate, on the circuit already there. It does not become a shop fit or a rewire.
- Isolate, then the jointThe consumer unit is switched off on that circuit before any cable is joined. A Costain semi on Shelvers Way is stopped and requoted if the circuit already there cannot feed the new point.
- Test the new pointThe new point and the circuit that feeds it are tested. If this alteration needs a minor works form, that form is completed before we leave. A board swap is not slipped into the same price.

Can you add one socket at Merland Rise?
Yes. We fit one extra outlet, or replace a switch plate, on the circuit already there at Merland Rise, on Preston Lane and on Shelvers Way, then test it.
Is this the same as shop sockets?
No. Commercial power is a separate service. This visit is one domestic point on the circuit already feeding that room.
What if the circuit cannot feed the new point?
We stop. A Costain semi on Shelvers Way is quoted a new run instead of overloading the circuit that is there.
Do you change the fuse board as well?
No. A board change is its own price. One socket on Preston Lane does not become a board replacement.
When is a minor works form completed?
When the change needs one. The new point and its circuit are tested either way. Merland Rise gets the form only if that alteration requires it.
