What happens on the day
Weatherboarded cottages on West Street, Kingston Road and Mill Lane hide awkward voids, so the shower cable is planned through a void that is actually there. The breaker and the cable are checked against the shower rating before the unit is connected. A pull cord isolator is fitted or replaced with that connection. A new circuit from the board, when the old one is too small, is described first.
- Match the ratingThe existing cable, breaker and RCD are compared with the shower you are putting in. Kingston Road cottages with a small old cable do not keep that cable for a more powerful unit.
- Use a real voidMill Lane and West Street weatherboarding leaves awkward gaps. The cable follows one of those gaps. A void that is not there is not invented by cutting listed fabric.
- Isolator and testThe pull cord isolator is fitted or checked, the unit is connected, and the circuit is tested under load. The certificate covers that electrical work. Plumbing and tiling stay out.

Can a West Street cottage take a more powerful shower on the old cable?
Only if that cable, the breaker and the RCD match the new rating. If they do not, a new circuit is described before the unit is connected.
How does the cable pass the weatherboarding?
Through a void that is already there. Mill Lane and Kingston Road cottages have awkward gaps, and the cable uses one of them rather than a fresh cut through the boarding.
Who fits the pull cord?
We do, as part of the electrical connection, or we test the one that is already there if it is suitable. Plumbing of the tray and the valve is not included.
Are tiles and the tray included?
No. The figure is the circuit check, the connection, the isolator and the certificate. Tiles, silicone and pipework stay with other trades.
What if Church Street fabric cannot be chased?
The cable stays in a path the listing allows. If that path cannot carry the size of cable the rating needs, the job stops until a path is accepted.
