What happens on the day
The cylinder stays. Supply to the immersion is isolated, then the element and the thermostat are tested. In a KT17 or KT19 semi the cupboard and the board that feeds the heater are both identified, because those houses may have more than one board. If the cylinder itself is finished, that replacement is a different job. The heater is left to heat only after the tests pass.
- Find the feedThe board and the switch that feed the immersion are identified. A second board in a KT19 semi is not ignored if that is the one feeding the cupboard.
- Test element and statThe element and the thermostat are tested with the supply isolated. A failed element is replaced when that part is the fault and the quote covers the part. The cylinder body is not swapped on a guess.
- Leave it heatingAfter the tests pass, the heater is switched back and left to heat. You are told what was changed. A new cylinder, if the tank has failed, is described before anyone drains it.

Do you replace the cylinder as part of an element change?
No. The element or the stat is changed when that is the fault. A failed tank is described as its own job before the cylinder comes out.
Which board feeds a KT19 immersion?
Whichever one the tests show. These semis may have a second or third board, and the cupboard switch is traced back to the right one.
Will you drain the tank on the first visit?
Only if the element has to come out and that repair is already accepted. A tank replacement is not started on a guess.
Is the thermostat included if it has failed?
When the tests show it has failed and the part is covered, yes. If the quote was diagnosis only, the part is named before it is fitted.
What about a High Street house with a protected cupboard?
The heater is worked on at the cylinder. Finishes around the cupboard that must stay are left. We do not alter the cupboard joinery.
