Emergency lighting test & certificate across Ashtead
We serve Ashtead from our base in Banstead.
What happens on the day
The test drops the mains to the emergency fittings and records what still lights. A fitting that stays dark is named on the certificate. It is not replaced on the test unless replacement was already a separate line. An outbuilding on the Ashtead Park side is included only when it actually has these fittings. A cottage on The Street is not assumed to have them. The fire alarm panel, where the building has one, is left out of this certificate.
- Drop the mains and lookEach fitting on the Ashtead list is watched with the mains off. The result is light, or dark. A fitting that is dirty or damaged is noted as it is, not cleaned up so the test looks neater.
- Name the dark onesDark fittings are listed with where they are. Replacement is a later job. On a workplace circuit that shares a board with other loads, only the emergency fittings are on this certificate.
- Include only fittings that existAn Ashtead Park outbuilding is on the test when it has emergency fittings. A house on The Street without them is not given a certificate that pretends otherwise.

Do you replace a fitting that stays dark?
Not on the test. It is named on the certificate, with its place in the building. Replacement is quoted after, as its own job.
Is an Ashtead Park outbuilding on the certificate?
When it has emergency fittings. Many outbuildings on that side have ordinary power only, and those are left off the emergency lighting record.
Does a cottage on The Street automatically have emergency lights?
No. The test covers fittings that are there. A home without them does not get a certificate written as if it were a workplace.
Is the fire alarm panel included?
No. The panel is a different test. This certificate is the emergency fittings when the mains is cut, and nothing else is folded into it.
Will the whole board off Woodfield Lane be off?
The mains to the emergency fittings is dropped for the test. Other circuits are restored when the test allows, and the second consumer unit is not replaced as part of looking at a lamp.
