Owner-occupied properties should generally undergo an Electrical Installation Condition Report every ten years, or upon a change of occupancy. Rented domestic properties require a valid report at least every five years, or before a new tenancy begins.
What happens during a consumer unit upgrade?
The existing fuse board is safely isolated and disconnected. We install a modern metal enclosure containing miniature circuit breakers, residual current devices and surge protection. Every circuit is tested, reconnected, verified and labelled, followed by the issue of an electrical installation certificate.
Can extra power sockets be added to existing circuits?
Yes, provided the existing circuit cabling, earthing and protective device are in sound condition and not overloaded. We test the existing circuit first to confirm it can safely support the additional outlets before installing them.
Can you install an EV charger if the fuse box is older?
A dedicated 7.4kW vehicle charge point requires proper earthing, overload protection and surge suppression. If the main consumer unit lacks capacity, we can install a dedicated mini distribution unit specifically for the charger supply.
Do I need to turn off the power while you work?
Power isolation is necessary on the specific circuits being worked on or tested. For whole-board replacements or full safety inspections, the main switch will be turned off for set periods, which we explain before cutting the supply.
