Local electrician in Horley

TMB Electrics is Trevor Bush, an electrician based in Banstead and covering Horley RH6.

Horley sits about thirteen miles south of Banstead, and the A217 runs almost the whole way, past Reigate and down through Sidlow, so the drive is normally around twenty five minutes.

That does make Horley further out than my home ring of towns, and I would rather say so plainly: I book Horley visits with proper time allowed instead of squeezing them between two jobs closer to Banstead.

Horley also sits in the same borough as Banstead, Reigate and Banstead, so the certification and notification side of notifiable work here is familiar ground rather than a new set of hoops.

Fault finding is what I get asked for most in Horley, and it is the work that rewards patience. A tripping RCD or a dead ring main is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

So I trace faults circuit by circuit with test instruments rather than guessing, and I tell you what is actually wrong before anything gets replaced or priced.

Gatwick is barely two miles south of Horley station, and that shapes the town. Plenty of households here work airport shifts, so a fault that leaves someone without power overnight is a real problem, not an inconvenience.

In houses like those I often find a modern consumer unit sitting on top of much older cabling. It looks reassuring and it is not, so I test what is behind the board before signing anything off.

Horley's interwar estates came next. Limes Avenue over at Haroldslea was laid out in 1936 and still keeps some of the original lime trees, with the classic Surrey semi running along it.

Horley Row and the Meath Green streets are dominated by houses built between the mid 1930s and the late 1970s, with a few much older properties mixed in near the old farm land.

That era is where fuse board replacements cluster. Rewireable fuses, no RCD protection and a kitchen wired in later add up to an installation that needs a proper look rather than just a new board.

Court Lodge was set out across the 1950s and 60s and built in 1965 for the old Dorking and Horley council, taking its name from the farm that stood beside the River Mole. It mixes houses and flats.

Flats bring their own work: shared landlord supplies, meter cupboards on the stair, and smoke and heat alarm arrangements that are not the same as in a house.

Langshott runs east towards Smallfield, with Langshott Manor of 1580 at one end and The Acres at the other, over seven hundred homes built by Barratt and Bovis between 2010 and 2016.

Those newer houses rarely need rewiring. What they need is more of everything: extra sockets, garden and outbuilding circuits, a driveway charger, and a board with a spare way to take it safely.

Westvale Park on the west side of town is still growing towards 1,510 homes, with Hoadley Road as its tree lined spine off Bonehurst Road, a primary school open since 2020 and neighbourhood shops on the way.

New build electrics are usually sound but deliberately minimal, so most of my work on estates like that is adding what the developer left out, tested and certificated properly.

The River Mole rises and falls fast here. The Environment Agency has recorded eight flood extents around the town centre since 1946, the most recent in 2013, and water and electrics never settle their differences quietly.

If your garage, outbuilding or ground floor sockets have ever been wet, say so when you call. Damp affected circuits need testing, not drying out and hoping for the best.

At the older end of town, St Bartholomew's on Church Road dates from the early fourteenth century and Ye Olde Six Bells beside it from around 1450, a reminder that Horley is far more than a Gatwick dormitory.
