Electric shower installation in Kingswood
An electric shower in Kingswood needs a cable that matches the unit, plus a pull cord. Waterhouse Lane houses may still have that cable as original wiring under a later addition.

What changes the Kingswood shower figure
The figure follows the cable the unit needs. If original wiring under a Costain addition cannot carry it, a new circuit is a different cost from swapping onto cable that already matches. The pull cord is included. Extra circuits off Copthill Lane are not folded into the shower.

What happens on the day
We size the cable to the shower unit and fit a pull cord where a switch would sit in the spray. At a Waterhouse Lane house the bathroom may be in a later addition on a Costain build, so the cable in that room is tested by itself. We do not take a spare way from a garage unit unless that unit is the one that feeds the bathroom. Houses on Woodland Way are not given a shower simply because they also want more circuits.
- Read the unit against the cableThe shower's rating is compared with the cable in the wall. On a Costain addition that cable may be original. A lamp still glowing nearby does not answer whether that cable can carry the shower.
- Put the pull cord in the bathroomThe cord switch sits clear of the spray, where it can be used with a dry hand. The cord and the cable stay in that bathroom, not out in the garage.
- Leave the garage unit aloneA consumer unit in the garage, annexe or outbuilding is opened only when it feeds this bathroom. Most bathrooms are on the house board.

Can original wiring under an addition feed the shower?
Only when that cable matches the unit. The later addition did not make the original wiring larger. A light nearby that works is not the test.
Where does the pull cord go?
Clear of the spray, in the bathroom, where it can be used with a dry hand. It is not hung in the garage or on an annexe board.
Is a Woodland Way shower the extra circuits for the whole house?
No. A shower is one circuit matched to its unit. Newer houses there often want other circuits as well, and those are listed on their own.
Will you open an outbuilding for a shower in the house?
No, unless that outbuilding's board is the one feeding the bathroom. The shower itself stays in the house.
Is the wall made good afterwards?
We finish at the shower unit, its cable and the pull cord. Tiling, and putting the wall back, is arranged apart from that.
