Electric shower installation in Chipstead
An electric shower in Chipstead needs a cable matched to the unit and a pull cord. In a High Road cottage that cable may be the older run that follows the room.

What happens on the day
We compare the shower unit with the cable that will feed it, then fit a pull cord outside the water. In cottages near the cricket green on High Road the cable often has to follow the room rather than cross it in a straight line. A consumer unit that looks recent does not prove that shower cable is recent. We test the circuit. A stable or garden room is not given the shower, and the long supply in from the road is not opened.
- Match the cable to the unitThe unit's rating is checked against the cable in the wall. If that cable is the older run behind a newer unit, it is tested before the shower is hung on it.
- Fit the pull cord clear of the sprayThe pull cord sits where a person can reach it without standing under the water. A switch in the spray is not left as the isolator.
- Keep the run inside the bathroomThe work stays on the shower circuit. We do not trench the garden, and we do not take a way from a feed that serves a stable.

Can the existing cable feed the new shower?
Only if the tests say it can carry that unit. In a High Road cottage the cable may be older than the consumer unit, and the look of the unit is not the test.
Where does the pull cord go?
Outside the spray, where it can be reached. We do not leave a switch where the water lands, including in a small cottage bathroom.
Is this a rewire of the cottage?
No. One shower circuit is not the cottage's cable. If the older cabling needs replacing, that is discussed from the tests and booked apart.
Will you dig the supply in from the road?
No. The shower is inside the house. The long run from the road to a house on the slope stays buried and is not opened for a bathroom.
Does a stable bathroom come under the house shower?
No. A stable or garden room is a different building. Its feed is not used as the shower circuit for the house.
