EICR and electrical testing in Chipstead
An EICR in Chipstead tests the cable behind the consumer unit, not the look of that unit. A tidy front on older cabling is common, and the report says what the test found.

What the Chipstead inspection covers
The figure is the inspection and the report for the dwelling named. A stable, garage or garden room is included only when it was named with the house. A newer fascia does not reduce the tests, and it does not add a board change.

What happens on the day
Houses in Chipstead often have a consumer unit that looks recent while the cabling behind it is much older. The inspection is what shows that split. We test the circuits, write the observations, and leave the unit in place unless a danger has to be isolated. Cottages near the cricket green on High Road and detached houses on the valley slopes are both inspected this way. The village is the Surrey one, not the Chipstead near Sevenoaks.
- Read the cable, not the fasciaA consumer unit can be newer than the cable it fronts. Each circuit is tested and the result is written against that circuit. The colour of the unit is not an observation.
- Keep the cottage and the slope apartA cottage near the cricket green on High Road is recorded as that house. A detached house whose supply runs a long way in from the road is recorded as that house. One report does not cover both.
- Stop at the inspectionThe visit produces the report. Changing the unit, or replacing the older cable, is discussed from the observations and booked only if you want that work.

The unit looks new. Is the cable new as well?
Not from the look of it. In Chipstead a newer consumer unit often fronts much older cabling, and only the tests show which circuits are which.
Do cottages on High Road need a different inspection?
The tests are the same. The cable in those cottages often has to follow the building, and the observations name that house rather than a detached plot on the slope.
Is the stable on the same report?
Only when the stable was included in the booking. Garages, stables and garden rooms are separate buildings, and a house report does not silently cover them.
Will you change the consumer unit on the day?
No. The visit is the inspection. If the observations say the unit should be changed, that change is a later booking.
Does this cover the Chipstead near Sevenoaks?
No. This is the Surrey village in CR5, between the Coulsdon valley and Banstead. The Kent village is a different place and is not on this visit.
