PAT testing in Chipstead

PAT testing in Chipstead labels each plug in item and writes it against the building it came from. The house, the stable and the garden room are not one list.

How Chipstead PAT testing is counted

The figure follows the number of items tested in each building. Adding the stable after we have started is a change to the count, made before those extra items are tested. The fixed wiring is not in the figure.

From £120

£120 for up to 20 appliances, then £1.50 per additional appliance.

Included when agreed

  • Visual inspection of the plug, lead and casing
  • Earth continuity, insulation and polarity tests as the class of appliance needs

What happens on the day

Every plug in item is checked, given a label, and recorded under the building where it sits. A detached house on the valley slope, the stable it keeps, and a garden room are separate lists even when one person owns all three. A pass on a kettle does not describe the older cabling behind the consumer unit, and it does not describe the feed out to the stable. Items that fail are marked and left out of use.

  • Split the lists by buildingHouse appliances stay on the house list. Stable and garden room items stay on theirs. A shared owner does not merge the lists into one certificate.
  • Label what failedA failed item is marked and left unplugged. Mending that appliance is not this visit, and the mark is not a comment on the fixed wiring.
  • Leave the fixed wiring aloneThe consumer unit and the cable behind it are not judged by these labels. An inspection of that wiring is a different visit.

Questions about Chipstead PAT testing

Still have a question?

Why are the stable and the house separate lists?

They are different buildings. Plug in items in the stable are not covered by labels stuck on appliances in the house, even on the same plot.

Does a pass mean the old cable is sound?

No. A toaster with a pass mark speaks only for that toaster. Older cabling behind the consumer unit needs an inspection, which a plug label is not.

Are rented houses included?

The plug in items are, when they were listed. The inspection a let house needs for its fixed wiring is not these labels.

What if an item fails?

It is marked and kept unplugged. Repair is not part of the visit, and we do not exchange it for a different appliance.

Do cottages on High Road use a shorter test?

No. Each plug in item is tested the same way. The cottage's cable, which follows the building, is simply not what this visit measures.
