How Purley armoured cable is costed
Burying the feed between the house and the one garden building on the note, tested at both ends, is this price when a board can accept it. Flats above the parades are not included. A Riddlesdown socket run is not dug in under this price.
From £250
Included
- Planning the cable path from the consumer unit or isolator to the far end
- Laying of steel wire armoured (SWA) cable, buried or clipped as the quote sets out
- Glands and terminations at both ends
- Continuity and insulation resistance tests on the new run
- A minor works certificate or installation certificate for the circuit
Ways to pay

- Pay by bank
- Bank transfer
- A full board on the Webb Estate stops the trench.
- Sockets inside the garden building are extra unless they were listed.
- The indoor outlets a Laing house lacks are a different job.

What happens on the day
The cable is buried between the house and the single garden building on the note, and only when a board can take that feed. On the Webb Estate the supply is often split, so the feed lands on the board with room and is not dug for a board that is already full. Flats above the Brighton Road and Foxley Lane parades are not trenched. A buried feed at a Riddlesdown Laing house does not stand in for the indoor outlets that house was short of.
- Stop if the board is fullOn the Webb Estate a board with no spare way means the trench waits. Digging does not create capacity the board does not have.
- Measure both endsThe garden end and the house end are tested before the ground is closed. A lamp that happens to light is not the measurement.
- Do not trench a parade flatFlats above the Brighton Road parades have no garden building to serve. No trench is priced there, and Foxley Lane flats are the same.

Will you dig on the Webb Estate if the board is full?
No. A split supply on the Webb Estate still needs a spare way. The trench waits until a board can take the feed.
Are flats above the Brighton Road parades trenched?
No. There is no garden building to feed. Foxley Lane flats are not trenched, and nor are the Brighton Road ones.
Does the trench add sockets in Riddlesdown?
No. A 1930s Laing house that wants more indoor outlets has that booked separately. The trench serves the garden building.
Is a lamp at the far end enough?
No. Both ends are measured before the ground is closed. A lamp lighting does not stand in for that test.
Can a second building be included?
Only when it was named before the dig. A shed noticed later is not added once the trench has started.
