Armoured cable supply run in Chipstead
Armoured cable in Chipstead feeds a garage, stable or garden room whose existing feed can no longer carry what that building uses. A cottage is not dug up so its older wiring can be replaced.

How Chipstead armoured cable is costed
The figure is the cable from the house to the building named, including the test. Sockets and lights inside that building are extra if they were not on the note. The incoming supply from the road is not part of the trench.
From £250
Included
- Planning the cable path from the consumer unit or isolator to the far end
- Laying of steel wire armoured (SWA) cable, buried or clipped as the quote sets out
- Glands and terminations at both ends

- A minor works certificate or installation certificate for the circuit
Ways to pay

- Pay by bank
- Bank transfer
- A feed that already tests as adequate is not replaced.

We serve Chipstead from our base in Banstead.
What happens on the day
The cable we bury or clip runs from the house to the detached building that was named, and only when the feed already there cannot carry what that building now uses. Garages, stables and garden rooms are the usual reason. The trench is not a replacement for the supply that runs a long way in from the road, and it is not a rewire of a cottage near the cricket green. Both ends are made off, the circuit is tested, and a lamp still lit at the stable is not accepted as the cable having passed.
- Replace the feed that is too smallThe existing feed is tested first. When it cannot carry the stable, garage or garden room, the new cable is the job. When it can, we do not bury cable for its own sake.
- Stop at the named buildingThe run ends at that building. A cottage on High Road is not opened up so older lighting cable can be pulled out on the same trench.
- Test both endsThe cable is made off at each end and tested before it is put into use. A single lamp lighting at the stable is not the test.

When is a new feed actually needed?
When the cable to the garage, stable or garden room fails the test for the load now on it. A feed that still meets that load is left in place.
Will you dig through the cottage?
No. Cottages near the cricket green keep the cable that follows the building. This trench serves a detached building, not the cottage lights.
Is the supply from the road part of the trench?
No. Houses on the slope already have a long incoming run. The new cable starts at the house and goes to the outbuilding.
Does a lamp at the far end mean the cable passed?
No. A lamp can light on a feed that is still too small. The test of the new cable is what decides, at both ends.
Can sockets in the stable be fitted too?
Only when they are on the note. The cable run does not automatically include a set of sockets or a charger.
