House rewiring in Wallington

Wallington's oldest suburban housing dates from the 1860s, when Nathaniel Bridges laid out an estate of gothic revival villas around Holy Trinity in what is now called the Old Town. Many have since been divided into flats and some knocked back into single houses, so a rewire is largely a job of untangling circuits that still cross boundaries which no longer exist.

The Victorian and Edwardian villas along Clifton Road, Belmont Road and Park Road are the same story on a grander scale, with three floors and a half-basement to run cable through. Partial rewires are common in them: the top floor was done properly at some point and the ground floor never was.

Older does not mean unsafe. Testing establishes condition, and on a fair number of SM6 houses the right answer is replacing the circuits that fail rather than stripping out the lot, which saves both money and weeks of mess.

Efficient job, well organised with good communication

Trevor was amazing very constructive as he faced real problems with our current set up but he managed to find solutions and did an excellent job! I would recommend him to anyone, trustworthy and high level of expertise, look no further! Thank you Trevor

Trevor went over and beyond trying to sort out the recommissioning of my electrical installation. He spoke with my provider and the EICR certificate was ready in minutes. I will highly recommend

House rewiring in Wallington — FAQs

Ours was flats and is one house again. Where does a rewire start?+

With finding out what is genuinely connected to what. In converted Old Town villas the circuit layout rarely matches the room layout any more, so I map and test the installation before quoting a scope.

Is rewiring notifiable work?+

It is. Rewiring a house in England is notifiable building work, so how it gets certified and notified is one of the things we agree before a start date is fixed, with the certificate arranged as part of the job.

Can the work be done in stages?+

Often it can, floor by floor or circuit by circuit, which suits occupied SM6 houses and tenanted flats. I set out the stages and what each one costs, so you are not committed to all of it at once.

What happens to Victorian plaster?+

Some chasing and lifting cannot be avoided, and lath and plaster forgives very little. I agree routes in advance to keep the damage where it is cheapest to repair, and the quote states which making good I include.

Do you work on tenanted properties?+

Yes, and it needs planning with the tenant as well as the landlord. I agree access and power-off times with whoever actually lives there before the work starts, and keep both informed as it progresses.
