Socket and switch installation in Chipstead
Sockets in Chipstead are a tested spur or a new circuit. A stable socket is not taken from the house lighting, and a long supply from the road is not spare room.

How Chipstead sockets are costed
The figure is the spur or the new circuit that was tested and fitted. A larger feed to a stable is not included in a house socket. A consumer unit change is its own figure even when the fascia looks tired.

What happens on the day
A new socket in the house is either a spur that tests as fit or a circuit of its own. Houses on Hazel Way and along the valley often already use the ways they have, because the supply runs a long way in from the road and the house has grown around it. We do not invent spare room. A socket for a stable or garden room stays on that building's feed, which is tested before a faceplate goes on. The house lighting circuit is not the donor.
- Choose spur or circuit from the testWe test the circuit already there before adding a spur. If it cannot take the socket, a new circuit is written instead of a spur that would overload it.
- Keep the stable on its own feedA socket in a stable or garden room is planned on the feed that serves that building. If that feed is too small, the socket waits.
- Leave the lighting circuit aloneHouse lights are not used to feed a new socket, in the cottage or in the outbuilding. The lighting point stays a lighting point.

When is it a new circuit rather than a spur?
When the circuit already there cannot take another socket. Houses along the valley often have little spare, and the test is what decides, not a guess from the fascia.
Can the stable have a socket off the house lights?
No. The stable stays on its own feed. If that feed is too small for another socket, we write that up instead of borrowing the lighting.
Does a newer unit mean there are spare ways?
No. We count them. A unit that looks recent can still front older cabling and have no room for the socket you want.
Will one socket recable the cottage?
No. Cottages on High Road keep the cable that follows the building. A socket is a socket. Replacing that cable is a different job.
Are outdoor sockets this visit?
A socket on an outside wall of the house can be, when it was named. Lamps down the garden are outdoor lighting, not this list.
