Light fitting and switch replacement in Kingswood
A light or dimmer in Kingswood is changed on the cable already at that point. A failed lamp in Lower Kingswood does not start a rewire of a Costain house.

What a Kingswood light change includes
The figure covers a fitting swapped on the cable that is already there. Shifting that point is a separate line. One failed lamp does not become a Costain rewire. A dimmer is included only where that lamp can accept it.

What happens on the day
The new fitting uses the cable already at that point. In a Costain house that cable may be original wiring under a later addition, and changing a pendant does not replace it. A dimmer goes on only where the lamp can be dimmed. A unit in the garage is not changed because a light in the house failed. Houses on Woodland Way do not get extra circuits because one lamp failed.
- Use the cable already thereThe new fitting hangs on the cable at that point, including where the cable is original wiring under an addition. If the point itself has to shift, that shift is written down before we cut.
- Fit a dimmer only if the lamp allowsA dimmer is chosen for the lamps already on that circuit. If a lamp cannot dim, it keeps a plain switch. We do not change the board to make a dimmer fit.
- Leave the larger jobs aloneA dead light is not the start of the extra circuits a Woodland Way house may want, and it is not a reason to open an outbuilding.

Will a new pendant replace original Costain wiring?
No. The replacement pendant takes the cable that is already there. Later additions and the original wiring are left alone. Moving where it hangs is another line.
Can every lamp take a dimmer?
No. It depends on the lamp. If it cannot dim, it keeps a plain switch, and we do not alter the board to force a dimmer.
Will a house light change the garage unit?
No. A board in the garage, annexe or outbuilding is left alone. A fitting in the house does not start work on that unit.
Is a Woodland Way lamp an extra circuit?
No. The change uses the point that exists. Extra circuits those newer houses want are a different job.
What happens when the existing cable will not reach?
A short cable is lengthened on the note before the fitting is hung. We do not hide the shortfall with a joint buried above the ceiling.
