Light fitting and switch replacement in Chipstead
Light fittings in Chipstead hang from the cable that already reaches that point. In a cottage near the cricket green the cable follows the building, and a shortfall is written down before anything is cut.

What a Chipstead light change includes
The figure covers swapping the fitting on the cable that already arrives there. Extra length, or a shifted point, is priced apart. One dead lamp is not an excuse to replace the supply that comes in from the road.

What happens on the day
The new fitting goes on the cable that already arrives at that point, including where a High Road cottage has made the cable follow the room. If the cable will not reach, the extra length is written down before we cut or joint anything. We do not hide a shortfall above the ceiling. Moving the point is a different line. A newer consumer unit does not tell us this cable is new, so the circuit is tested for the fitting.
- Use the cable that is thereThe fitting is hung on the existing point. A cottage near the cricket green is not given a fresh line through the room because a fitting is being swapped.
- Write a short cable down firstIf the cable stops short of the fitting, the extra length is noted before anything goes up. A joint is not hidden out of sight.
- Test the circuit for this fittingThe circuit is tested with the new fitting on it. A dimmer is used only where that lamp can accept one. Other rooms stay as they are.

What happens when the cable will not reach?
Any extra length is noted before the fitting goes up. A joint is not tucked into the ceiling of a High Road cottage to hide a shortfall.
Can you move the point across the room?
That is a different line of work. A swap hangs on the point that exists. Moving it, especially where cable follows the cottage, is described before we cut.
Does a new consumer unit mean the lighting cable is new?
No. The unit can be newer than the cable. We test the circuit that feeds this fitting rather than trusting the fascia.
Are dimmers always possible?
No. The lamp has to accept a dimmer. Where it does not, we fit a switch and say so, including in a cottage near the cricket green.
Will the garden be trenched for one indoor lamp?
No. An indoor fitting does not open the long supply from the road, and it does not recable a stable.
