Emergency lighting test & certificate across Chipstead
We serve Chipstead from our base in Banstead.
What happens on the day
Where a building already has emergency fittings, we watch each one with its supply off and write whether it lit. A dark lamp is recorded as dark. This is not an inspection of older cabling behind the consumer unit, and it is not a dig of the supply that runs a long way in from the road. A cottage near the cricket green with no emergency fittings has nothing to certify. A stable is included only when it actually has those fittings.
- Test the fittings that existEach fitting already on the list is observed with the supply switched off. We record whether it lit. One that stays dark is written as dark, not nudged so the sheet looks kinder.
- Count anything found on arrivalA fitting that was not on the list is added to the count before the test starts, or it is left out. Nothing is certified unseen.
- Stay out of the ground and the fasciaThe incoming supply stays buried. The consumer unit is not changed. A failed lamp is a failed lamp, not a reason to renew the cable behind the unit.

What if the cottage has no emergency lights?
Then there is no test and no certificate for them. We do not fit a set under the guise of testing, and we do not write a pass for lights that are not there.
Does a dark lamp fail the test?
It is written as dark. We do not tweak it to glow for the note. Replacing it is a different line if you want that done.
Is this an inspection of the old cable?
No. The test watches the emergency fittings. Older cabling behind the consumer unit needs its own inspection.
Will you dig the supply from the road?
No. A long incoming run on the valley slope is not opened so a lamp test can be written. The fittings are watched at the building.
Are stable fittings included?
When the stable has emergency fittings and they were named, yes. A stable with ordinary lights only is not given this certificate.
