What happens on the day
Cables go to the socket, switch and appliance positions before the units go in, and the outlets go on after the units are in place. A hob, an oven or a dishwasher that is on the list gets its own isolation. The people fitting the kitchen keep the cupboards, the worktops and the pipes. On a terrace on Chipstead Valley Road we do not borrow every circuit that was added over the years just because the kitchen is open. A full rewire of the rest of the house is not this visit.
- Cable before the units, outlets afterFirst the cables land at the new positions. Sockets, switches and appliance outlets go on once the units are in. We do not fit outlets onto carcasses that are not there yet.
- Isolate the appliances on the listA hob, oven or dishwasher named on the list gets its own isolation. An appliance that was never listed is not given a circuit because the kitchen is open.
- Leave the valley circuits that are not the kitchenA terrace on Chipstead Valley Road can have many circuits added over time. Only the kitchen circuits on this booking are worked. The others stay as they are.

Who fits the cupboards and the pipes?
The people fitting the kitchen. We put the cables in before the units and the outlets on after them. Cupboards, worktops and plumbing are not part of this booking.
Does every added circuit on Chipstead Valley Road get reused?
No. A terrace there can carry circuits added over a long time. The kitchen uses the circuits this booking names, and the others are left alone.
Does the oven share a circuit with the kettle?
Not when the oven is on the list as its own appliance. It gets its own isolation. A kettle point is only added if it was listed too.
Will the whole house be rewired because the kitchen is open?
No. Work beyond the kitchen is a different booking. Opening the kitchen does not become a rewire of the terrace.
When are new kitchen circuits notified?
When a new circuit is part of this job, that circuit is notified. A like for like outlet on a circuit that already exists is recorded as the smaller change it is.
