The cellars cut into Reigate's sandstone are a recurring source of tripping. Cool, damp and usually pressed into service as storage, they punish cable and accessories that were perfectly sound when they were fitted, so an RCD dropping for no visible reason upstairs is worth investigating down there early.

It trips once a week then behaves for days. Can that be found?+
Usually, but it needs patience and a record. Note what was running and what the weather was doing each time it happens, because on an intermittent that pattern is worth more than an hour of testing.
Why hourly rather than a set figure?+
Because the honest figure is not knowable in advance. You are told at each stage what has been ruled out, so you can judge whether the next hour is worth spending. A fixed price would be a guess dressed up as certainty.
Is damaged cellar wiring safe to leave for now?+
Not if it is showing damp damage. Where a cellar circuit is the cause I will say what needs replacing rather than resetting it and hoping, and that repair is quoted on its own.
Can you find a fault another electrician gave up on?+
Often, yes, and it helps enormously if you tell me what they already tested. I would rather start where somebody else stopped than charge you to repeat their work.
Do I get a certificate for fault finding?+
For the repair, yes, whatever certificate or test record the completed work calls for. Investigation on its own produces findings I explain to you in plain terms, not a certificate.
