Downlights in Chipstead are cut only in the rooms that were named. A cottage ceiling near the cricket green is not opened to light a stable that was never on the list.

How Chipstead downlights are counted
The figure is the openings and fittings in the rooms named. Adding a stable after the count is closed changes the figure before any further hole is cut. A new circuit, if the existing one cannot carry the lights, is written as its own line.

Included

- Cutting new ceiling holes or reusing existing ones
- Connection of each fitting onto the lighting circuit

Ways to pay

- Pay by bank
- Bank transfer
- Joists are not cut to keep a symmetrical pattern.
- Fire separation is fitted only on a ceiling that needs it.

What happens on the day
We mark the openings in the rooms on the list, check the space above those ceilings, and fit the lights on a circuit that can carry them. Cottages near the cricket green on High Road have ceilings where the cable has to follow the building, so an opening is placed where that space exists, not on a grid that ignores the joists. A stable or garden room is not opened because the house is having lights. Where a ceiling must stay fire resisting, the hood goes in. Other ceilings are left without one.
- Open only the named roomsEach opening is in a room that was written down. A landing is included only when the landing was on that list.
- Follow the cottage ceilingAbove a High Road cottage the space may not be a clear straight run. We set the lights where the ceiling allows, and we do not cut joists to force a pattern.
- Leave the other buildings darkA stable, garage or garden room keeps its own ceiling. Those openings are a separate list, written in the booking before any hole is cut.

Can every ceiling in the cottage take a downlight?
Not from a wish for a grid. The space above a cottage near the cricket green decides where an opening can go, and joists are left intact.
Are stable lights part of the house count?
No. A stable or garden room is another building. Its ceiling is opened only when that building was on the list.
What if the circuit cannot carry the extra lights?
Then those lights wait. A new circuit is priced on its own. The lights stay off a cable whose test already failed.
Does a newer consumer unit mean the lighting cable is new?
No. The unit can front older cabling. The lighting circuit is tested for these fittings, and the age of the fascia is not the test.
Will you dig a supply to light the far garden?
No. These are ceiling openings inside. Garden lights, and the long run in from the road, are different work.
